It is with both joy and sadness that I am writing to announce the final edition of the ICP. After you receive this notice, I will delete the mailing list for the ICP from my files and you will no longer receive announcements about the project. I was placed on a new drug regimen about 2 months ago and have experienced a serious side effect to the new meds. I am no longer able to continue to maintain the project as a result.

Please know that it has been a joy to bring you the ICP for the past 2 years and that I wish I could continue the project into the future. However, my focus has to be on my own healing now. For those of you who have contributed or hosted the ICP, my heartfelt gratitude can hardly be expressed. For those who blog about HIV/AIDS and who fight to end the stigma of this disease, I urge you to continue your work. We are all in the fight of our lives.

Many, many thanks to Sokari at Blacklooks for hosting the final edition of the ICP at the following link:

Dear Friends of the International Carnival of Pozitivities (ICP):

It is a tremendous pleasure to announce the publication of edition 2.9 of the ICP at the following link:

http://rosemaryrowe.typepad.com/creampuff_revolution/2008/03/creampuff-welco.html

Creampuff, a.k.a., Roro, who hails from Vancouver, is our first repeat host from Canada. I encourage you to bookmark this edition and visit it over time so that you can enjoy each of the contributions from the world of HIV/AIDS. I hope that you will also join me in thanking Roro for her work this month. We “met” about 2 years ago during the NHL Hockey Championship between Edmonton and the Carolina Hurricanes and have been fast friends since despite some rather competitive invocation of mojo to make our teams win the Stanley Cup. Roro’s sense of compassion combined with her sense of humor makes me quite happy to count her among my friends.

This 21st consecutive edition of the ICP features personal accounts, video, a special musical contribution from UK band Slovo, self-help information and the latest in news from the HIV/AIDS community. I hope that you will spend some time reading and that you will leave comments for the contributors. It is through your comments that we can hone our messages and learn how you feel about our work. Please feel free to leave your thoughts with each of the contributors and for our gracious host.

Next Edition

Please visit the ICP homepage to learn more about this project and how you can contribute here:

http://www.internationalcarnivalofpozitivities.blogspot.com .

We are now accepting submissions for edition 2.10 to be hosted here, at Mshairi:

http://www.mshairi.com/blog

This will be Mshairi’s first stint as host of the ICP although she has been a frequent contributor in the past. Mshairi’s edition will mark the first time that the ICP will have been hosted by an African host. If you like poetry, you should scroll through her blog. A selection of her poetry also appears at one of my favorite sites, The Other Voices Poetry International Project, an anthology of poetry from around the world that has been recognized by UNESCO, here:

http://www.othervoicespoetry.org

Mshairi's work appears under the title “Footprints” here:
Contribute Your Work
The more people who know about the ICP, the more likely it will be that we will continue to receive excellent contributions. In fact, feel free to nominate your own HIV/AIDS related contributions from your favorite blogs or websites. The most powerful stories are those of personal nature, so I would encourage you to seek out or write personal accounts and to share them with the ICP. There are many more of you than of me, so join me in the search for quality blogs that share personal stories about HIV/AIDS from around the world. We have hardly begun to tap into the situation in Asia, so blogs from that region of the world are particularly welcome.
Contribute Your Work

I hope that you will join the growing community of contributors and hosts for this important international forum for genuine voices of AIDS. If you are interested in hosting the ICP, please email me at ron.hudson@verizon.net and I will make the process for you as painless as possible. Return hosts are welcome! We have hosts in line through December, 2007, but need to start recruiting new hosts for next year. I hope that you will consider signing up to host a specific edition of the ICP.

Hi all:

The San Francisco Public Library needs your help with an important LGBTQI
history project. Whether you used to hold court at the Black Cat Café in the
1950s or marched with Queer Nation in the 1990s, the library wants you to
get your photos out of the closets and into the archives!

The diverse faces and places of LGBTQI communities throughout San
Francisco's history should be added to the Library's photograph archives.
Researchers, writers, filmmakers and students are depending on people like
you to help the Library create a comprehensive visual history of these
communities.

It's easy. Here's how it works ...

Bring your photo albums and loose photos to PHOTO DAY on October 14, 2007
from 10 AM to 4 PM to the Eureka Valley/Harvey Milk Branch Library, 1 Jose
Sarria Court (16th Street just below Market). There, you'll meet with
archivists who will select images and jot down your memories of them. Your
pictures will be copied on the spot while you enjoy free refreshments and
chat with other contributors. There's no need to still be living in SF or to
self select from your collection. We urge you to bring it all.

Your photographs are then available to library users at both the San
Francisco History Center at the Main Library and the Eureka Valley Branch.
An exhibition of the images is planned at the branch when it reopens in 2009
after remodeling.

Photo Day appointments are strongly encouraged as this greatly reduces any
wait time. Drop ins are accepted if time permits. To make an appointment or
for more information, contact the project coordinator Nina Sazevich at
nina911@pacbell.net or 415-752-2483.

We are also looking for volunteers to help select photos and work with the
public that day. Volunteers attend a training on Saturday, October 13 from 9
AM to 4 PM to learn about the history of the community and the archival
process. We end the training with a hands-on session in photo selection and
recording. Lunch is provided. Interested volunteers should contact the
Coordinator at the number and email above or download the volunteer
application at http://www.sfpl.org/news/lgbtqishades.

If you have ideas for other organizations and people we should contact,
please let us know. Thanks -- we look forward to seeing you on PHOTO DAY and
thanks for helping us spread the word! ... Nina

Please consider contributing your original artwork, poetry, news, personal accounts, short stories, videos or music files for the next edition. This next edition is very special. I have approached the host, Mr. Ogre, to participate as an outreach to a conservative political community that normally may not hear from people living with HIV/AIDS. Please consider this an opportunity to share your stories with a group of people who may not normally think of HIV/AIDS as often as we do and how you might make your case for teamwork with people who may not necessarily agree with you.
Please Share with Your Friends
As usual, I would like to ask you to post a permanent link to the ICP homepage (you can get a widget there as well) on your blogs or websites and to share the word of this edition with your readers and friends.
I have what is probably a very rudimentary post, but I am in need of some assistance regarding blogs.
Can anyone offer a few simple tips about beginning a blog?
My biggest questions are:
What is the best blog management tool?
Should I buy a domain and then use the management tool for uploading content?
How could I use the blog as a non-invasive means of communication yet still benefit from altrusitic advertising?

Indeed, many questions there - I really appreciate any advice that anyone can offer, thanks.

It means that we own how we are, exactly as we are. It means not needing to negotiate for our acceptance: they can take us or leave us, and we'll learn to live with however that makes us feel. It's a clean way of being in the world.

It's a queer way of being in the world. "
Needless to say I posted a post that explained my general angst and anti-gay-stereo-type-phoenomenon I've noticed recently, with me being unable to get along with Females. I don't enjoy their company very much and find so many flaws in them. I find them too needy, and just a general waste of time. I used the word loathe, which generally means to hate--Too strong a word now that I think of it. To which the moderator shoots me this email.

"I removed your post to Queer Sincerity about "loathing" women. It's out of bounds in general in my book, and especially in a tribe that includes women.

You may be on Tribe to vent, but don't try it in tribes I moderate unless you can learn how to moderate yourself.

Next time, not only your post, but your membership in the tribe will be removed.

All this from a tribe that denotes free speech?? Telling it like it is. Apparently this guy has a reputation to keep up with the females who might be his largest publishing audience. Was I wrong in posting this?? Needless to say I quit his tribe. I tried to retrieve my original posting for all you to compare but could not find it in my temp file.

no one has posted anything very relevant on here in quite awhile, so i thought i would try and get a discussion going. i just did a search on "Brokeback Mountain" in this tribe and was quite surprised to see that nothing has been written about it by anyone here (unless it was in your blogs) i FINALLY got to see the movie last night. i watched it 3 times. you see, i live in a very small, very redneck town in Western Arizona. Brokeback would never be shown in the only theatre in town. we are lucky to get 3rd run movies. so the DVD came out and i bought it at Wal Mart. not because i do alot of shopping at walmart... i could have gotten it many different places (online) cheaper, but they didn't cave to the xtian zealots and sold the movie anyway, so i specifically went to them to buy my copy.

i was born and raised in a small town in Arizona. Apache Junction, Arizona. yes that's a real town here. my high school graduating class was 57 people. we had an outhouse until we got inside plumbing when i was 12. i rode a horse to school from kindergarten thru grade 5, when we finally got school buses to take us.

in alot of ways, i'm Ennis. the one big difference is, my Jack got me to live with him in Cathedral City, Ca. we had 5 wonderful years together before he was killed. i blogged about it here: http://jar2.blogspot.com/2005/05/day-my-heart-died.html

i live alone now. have done so for the past 22 years, except when i lost my house after becoming disabled. then i had to live with family and friends until i could get back on my feet. like Ennis, i could never replace my Rusty. while i watched the movie, i took out Rusty's shirt (read my blog post) and cried into it, especially at the ending. i knew, from everything i read about the movie, that it was going to be painful for me. i didnt know how painful. its after 6 am and i still cant get to sleep.

i'm still amazed at the similarities between Ennis and i.

Ennis married (after meeting Jack) and had 2 kids
i married after meeting Rusty, and had 1 kid

Ennis was a loner
i am a loner

Ennis continued to see Jack while he was married
i continued seeing Rusty after i married.

we both divorced

Ennis never lived with Jack
i got 5 wonderful years with Rusty (ok we differ here)

Jack was killed by fagbashers

Who are they? Check out www.battlecry.com: They believe in ongoing wars against Muslim countries, recruiting our youth as “Christian soldiers.” They want to enact laws that are antiwoman, antichoice, antisex, and anti-gay.

The United States joined with four of the world's most repressive regimes to reject an application by two international LGBT groups seeking to join a UN agency that advises the world body on economics and social issues.

The application by the International Lesbian and Gay Association and the Danish Association of Gays and Lesbians was dismissed without a hearing.

The groups had sought inclusion on the United Nations Economic and Social Council, a think tank made up of non governmental agencies from around the world.

The United States voted with Iran, Zimbabwe, China, Cameroon against granting a hearing for the application.

ECOSOC status allows NGOs to attend UN meetings and speak in their own name. The Council already has participation from labor and social rights groups.

The governments of Iran and Zimbabwe are considered to be among the most repressive anti-gay regimes in the world.

President Mugabe of Zimbabwe has long scapegoated and persecuted gay men and lesbians. The recently-elected president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, has overseen an anti-gay campaign in recent months, in which many young people accused of homosexual acts reportedly have been executed.

Egypt also voted against considering the application. That country too has a history of persecuting gay men.

"It is an absolute outrage that the United States has chosen to align itself with tyrants — all in a sickening effort to smother the voices of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people around the world," said Matt Foreman, executive director of the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force.

"Apparently Iran, which President Bush has deemed part of the 'Axis of Evil,' is a suitable partner when it comes to discriminating against gay people," said Foreman.

The ILGA has been trying to get inclusion on the Council for the past four years. Each time it has been met with roadblocks created in part by the US.

Three years ago, the United States abstained from voting on a sexual orientation nondiscrimination resolution offered by Brazil via the U.N. Human Rights Commission.

The Bush-Cheney administration has also opposed women's and children's rights treaties, sex education, contraception and family planning in international forums.

Hi,

We wanted to drop a note to everybody who currently moderates a “Mature” tribe, because of these important changes coming up on December 20th:

1) We’re implementing Community Flagging. To ensure that all posts are respectful, and to respond to concerns from our users about some of the content on the site being offensive, we’re going to allow members to flag content (photos and listings) for removal. In our judgment, it’s likely that at least some of the photos in the Mature tribe(s) you currently moderate will be flagged for removal by other tribe.net members.

2) We’re updating our Terms of Use (“TOU”). This update is to reflect changes in the legal environment facing us and our members. In particular, posting content that portrays obscenity, pornography, or sexually explicit conduct is for practical purposes illegal for members like ours under U.S. federal law. So it will be prohibited in our TOU, and we will drop the “Mature” designation from your tribe and sitewide.

3) If your tribe currently has “public” status, we’ll be switching it to “private” status on 12/20. This means that only invited members will be able to see any content in it, and any links to content inside the tribe will only work if the user is already a member of your tribe. It also means your tribe will not appear in search results. We’re making the switch for you to give you time to remove all the content that’s in violation of the new TOU. (As a moderator, you will always have the option down the road of switching the status back to public).

What to do now: we suggest you remove all photos that you think are likely to be considered in violation of the new TOU. When you’re done with that, and only then, go to the Manage Tribe page and change the Mature category for your tribe from Mature to whatever seems most appropriate. Doing this now may save you a lot of work down the road, but it is only an option to you before 12/20.

Tribe will always depend on great moderators for remaining a great service, and so we’re grateful for your help as we all go through these changes. If you have questions, we’ll be discussing this online at moderators.tribe.net and tribeideas.tribe.net

Thanks,

Wade Lagrone
VP Marketing, Tribe.net
www.tribe.net/template/pub%2CAbout.vm

P.S. If you have so many photos to remove that it’s a big chore, let us know and we’ll figure out a way to help.

I would like to introduce my newest blog, Discuss It - http://www.discuss-it.net

So what is this new site all about? Hmmm… that’s a tough one. I am not even sure myself, and I created the site. Here’s what I do know: I want Discuss It to be a place where ideas, news, and issues can be discussed in an open and mature way. I have created a small group of panelists who will write about a particular topic. What they say may be thought-provoking, infuriating, inspirational, and/or controversial. That’s where you the reader come in.

I want the visitors of Discuss It to become active participants in it. Don’t like something you’ve read? Leave a comment letting us know your take. Find something you agree with? Let us and others know. Go back often to see how others have replied to what you’ve said. Explain your opinions, defend your views, and take part in the discussion. Every post will have its own RSS feed for the comments on it that you can subscribe to.

Will I solve all the world’s problems through this site? Probably not. But by exposing yourself to new ideas and other people’s opinions and in turn letting them know where you stand, maybe, just maybe we can build a better understanding of the challenges and opportunities that our society is presented with today.

Please stop by Discuss It and let me know what you think!
Life has thrown me a lot of curves lately, but I'm still around. I feel like I've neglected the blog community as of late. I've tried to keep up with many of you, but it's hard.

I've found that blogging is good therapy, but it's hard to keep up with all the reading, posting, commenting, and finding new blogs that I would like to be doing. There's so much other stuff going on in my life that it's hard to find that time.

In addition, I was all excited when my hits starting pouring in by the (literal) thousands... only to find that somehow Google Images has ranked five pictures of some rather hot men very high in their search categories, and that's the only reason for the spike. Sure, people see my blog, but they don't come to read... they just want the skin.
I'm not hunting for comments or readers... just hoping to reconnect with some old blogfriends and make some new ones. It's good to know this group is still here and going strong. It's comforting in a way.

Thanks for listening!
I am looking for 2-3 individuals interested in developing a gay blog review business venture. This would be the objective:

To create a "Best Gay Blog" branded business that would draw a minimum of 5,000 unique visitors per day to read about their favorit gay blogs. The Best Gay Blog website will have daily reviews of gay blogs in various categories (such as art, film, personal, porn, etc...) as well as hot items coming from the over 100,000 gay blogs on the web today.

If you are interested in such a venture and would like to work together on a business plan, please let me know. In particular I am interested in finding individuals who currently have a strong blog presence and understand the technologies behind the blog world. Thanks.

I have some various videos I host on my blog. Recently I discovered another site was deep linking to my videos (that is, they linked directly to the video files and not to the blog page where the links were). I contacted the person who posted the deep links and asked them to change the links to the blog page instead. I got a very sarcastic reply back from them (although they did comply).

Is my thinking wrong here? I have always considered deep linking to audio, video, or even large picture files as stealing bandwidth from the host of those files. When someone deep links to one of my video files, they are bypassing my blog completely while I still get charged with the bandwidth usage (and yes, I have plently of bandwidth- that's not the issue).
September 9, 2005

Hello everyone. I just wanted to update you all on
what has developed over the course of the day. It is
10pm on Friday and I am back to Monterey. I spoke to
my mother and my cousin Jake tonight. My mom made her
way to Louisiana through the northern route. She is
spending the night at her friends and going home
tomorrow in the light of day. She says it’s eerie
there. My mom was in California when the storm hit.
Our three cats have been alone all this time, and I am
glad she is going to check on them.

My cousin Jake is in Houston. They have been given a
hotel room for 14 days. They were able to rescue
their animals from the flood in New Orleans, but they
are not allowed to keep them in the hotel room. My
cousin Blake got rescued from his roof with his
girlfriend and her child. There were brought to the
Super Dome. Jake told me some horrifying stories of
things that happened there. I did not realize that my
cousins where in such a bad way. I had only had
enough contact to know that they were alive. I plan
on picking them up in the bus on our way home. Yes we
are getting a bus. We found a driver tonight and this
thing is going to happen.

There is land in Folsom where my mom lives. We will
be able to set up a community there. Supplies are
totally depleted in all the areas all around. I am
going to update the list of things we need. It has
changed since I wrote it last night. Survival is the
name of the game now, and I am afraid that toiletries
will be a luxury item. It’s a war zone down there. I
think that community will be the key to survival. I
am not just going down there to make a movie. The
movie is what is enabling me to go down there. My
mission is much greater than that and the story is yet
to unfold.

I must get some rest. I have been going non-stop.
Tomorrow I will update the list of things we need. I
don’t have it in me tonight. Think along the lines of
generators, gas cans, batteries, RENUABLE ENERGY.
Anybody want to help us set up some solar panels? Why
not? Now is the time to think about alternative ways
that we can be surviving on this planet. A very
important thing that we are going to need is healthy
food. There is no food in the area. The roof over my
bedroom, at my mom’s house, caught the tree from
falling on our propane tank. This means that we will
have the means to cook. And the most important thing
that we will need is money. I want to be very frank
about this. Money will be our most valuable resource.
I promise to you all that if you give me your money,
I will do good things with it. I will help people
first hand, and it won’t be going through any
bureaucracy.

Before I go to bed, it’s now midnight; I want to fill
everyone in on the details of our upcoming benefits.

Saturday, September 17th
2011 11th St.
We are going to do an art auction. If anyone would
like to donate a piece of his or her work, please let
me know. It could be anything. A friend is going to
donate a massage. That’s what I need a massage. This
is an impromptu event. All the help with food and
drinks I could get would be great.
like to contribute to this, please let us know. Pilar
has been networking hard to pull together her SF
community. Thank you Pilar!

People are asking me where they can drop off supplies
that we could use for this purpose?

Thank you all. Good night.

It is already 11:30 and I have to go to an interview
for the Newspaper. It taken me so long to get this
letter out, because of the phone calls I have been
receiving. The list is not finished, but people can
get a better idea of what I am doing here and how they
can help.
Thank you all so much. Please call me at any time.
My phone is the best communication tool I have at this
point. If you have any questions, you want to help in
any way, or if you want to play devils advocate.
Please call me. 510 717-8156. The website is
filmkatrina.com.
